Anyone who has ever owned black furniture knows all about it: The fight against dust is a losing battle. And yet it is possible to go a step further. What if the particles were so small that it was impossible to see them with the naked eye?

This is where clean room cleaning comes in: microscopically small dirt particles are excluded leaving behind a “clean room” – a clean, safe, sterile environment.

Dussmann Service has been established on the fast-growing market for clean room cleaning for several years now and is one of Germany’s leading providers, thanks to comprehensive professional knowledge and specialist skills. These are constantly expanded and updated in certified training for Dussmann cleaning personnel. Dussmann Service has now had this know-how officially confirmed. In July, the TÜV Austria Cert GmbH recertified Integrated Facility Management, catering, cleaning, security and technical services. Simultaneously, clean-room cleaning was also certified according to the requirements of EN ISO 9001:2008.

Clean-room cleaning is subject to strict regulation in accordance with DIN ISO 14644 and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). For example, cleaning operatives must wear special protective clothing. The work is carried out in several stages – specialist operatives pass through an airlock between each cleaned area where new protective clothing is donned. This excludes dirt particles which have settled on clothes in one room from being carried into the next.

The equipment and cleaning products too are subject to strict regulation. For example in the pharmaceutical industry, it is recommended that “autoclave-able” cleaning trolleys are deployed - these are made of stainless steel and can therefore be sterilized before use. The mops used are made of 100 percent polyester and must also be sterilized.

To control the quality of cleaning, Dussmann Service facilitates exact measurement of airborne particles electronically. This and other criteria guarantee comprehensive quality assurance which goes hand in hand with the company’s internal training program.

Although legal requirements are clearly defined, clients’ demands differ tremendously with respect to the cleaning frequency or the details of the equipment necessary. Many of them therefore provide  cleaning equipment and products to the service provider themselves. The actual requirements are specified by the respective industry and can vary from client to client. For example, clean rooms for the manufacture of semiconductors are generally cleaned once a day. In contrast, the pharmaceutical industry prescribes cleaning after each change of product i.e. each time a new medicament is processed.

Dussmann Service provides clean room cleaning to clients in the pharmaceutical, high-tech and solar industries as well as to medical organizations. In addition, the service provider offers work clothing administration, clean room laundry, guard security and several other services.

In spring, Dussmann Service took part in the Clean Room Lounge. This is the new market’s largest fair where the latest developments and advances are exhibited. Due to intensive client interest, Dussmann Service will be taking part again in 2010. The service provider also presents information on this subject in German and English on its website.

A printed brochure can be ordered from reinraum@dussmann.de or can be downloaded in pdf-format in German and in English from the Dussmann Service website.
