Sharing Specialist Knowledge

06.09.2010 – Close to the client and the potential client. That this is true of Dussmann Service is demonstrated by branch office Cologne. The service provider invited representatives from facilities for the elderly in the region to the event “Costs – Dignity – MDK: Care with Dignity in the Context of MDK Audits”.

Soft skills such as personnel management and personnel motivation were one of the main subjects of the afternoon event organized in June by the Dussmann Service branch office Cologne. In the context of the upcoming audits by the health insurances’ medical service (MDK) Dussmann Service invited management personnel from several facilities for the elderly in the Cologne region to a series of specialist talks offering advice and practical support.

External specialists Ruth and Manfred Borutta were invited as speakers. Both have many years of experience in nursing and care for the elderly. Ketzer is a healthcare specialist at the Catholic College in North Rhine-Westphalia. Borutta is division head of further training and project management with the public authorities for seniors’ facilities in Aachen.

Together, they asked the question, “Why don’t lectures help to achieve good MDK ratings?” and explained how nursing staff can be motivated to participate in change. The audience was also very motivated as the subsequent discussion demonstrated. One observation led to the next and problems were illustrated by the personal experience of the participants.

“Operator responsibility in technical services” and “Malnutrition in meal services” were two further subjects. Subjects with which Dussmann Service is confronted every day. Subjects which are also on the agenda of the MDK audits. Because in addition to nursing, facility management and catering are decisive aspects of care. One very good example is the necessity for balanced nutrition, oriented on the specific needs of the elderly – a subject on which Dussmann Service Catering can offer expertise.

The audience had the opportunity to test the quality of this particular Dussmann service themselves. The event took place in the conference rooms of the Landschaftsverband Rhineland where Dussmann Service is in charge of catering, as it was for this event.

Following this initial success which was organized for the care sector, further events will follow; Dussmann Service has sent out invitations for the next specialist talks at the end of October and there will also be an event for the Business & Industry sector.
